"I'm excited to keep seeing the progress!"

Kilinya Cothran
Kilinya Cothran, St Louis, MO
Describe your life prior to starting Boot Camp for Women.
I was somewhat active, but I didn't do anything on a regular schedule. I did some running and home exercise videos. I didn't really think about what or when I ate or really pay much attention to how my body felt.

Describe your life now that health and fitness are a part of your life.
This is probably the most intense and steady working out I've ever done. I really forward to 5:30am. My body craves the feeling. I'm excited about working out now and am excited to keep seeing the progress.

What do you like best about boot camp?
I really like the time. I also feel like I have some tools and information that would allow me to continue this kind of workout on my own if I needed to go that way. I'm motivated to really reach my goal and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What results are you seeing/feeling with your health and fitness program (please be as specific as possible)?
My clothes are fitting differently. I'm seeing and feeling muscles in places I never have before. I really am thinking about when and what I eat in regards to what my body needs as fuel. Not just what might satisfy my hunger.

What would you say to other people thinking about starting boot camp?
Just Do It! Until you make yourself a priority you will never be able to accept or see change in your fitness goals.

Getting up 3 times a week at a certain time takes commitment. Sticking with it will yield results you will soon begin to notice.

"I have a membership to another gym and felt I wasn't getting a good workout. I was having a hard time challenging myself.

When I first started, I couldn't run a lap to save my life. Now I can do 2 laps! It doesn't seem like much, but it truly is a great accomplishment for me. And since June I've already seen a significant weight loss, increase in flexibility and endurance."

I just wanted to thank you guys for these past 4 weeks. My boot camp experience was amazing. I lost another 6 pounds (I had plateaued after losing 25) and began seeing definition and better muscle tone in my body. The coaches are great and really motivated us. I actually looked forward to getting up early to make it and I am not a morning person!

Thanks again,
Maria

A few short months ago, I weighed nearly 300 pounds and was incredibly unhappy. Though I had been active before (I had worked with a trainer several years ago, and was even fit enough for spinning classes), walking from the garage to my desk now winded me. I knew I had to do something…

When they announced an 8-week boot-camp challenge at our office, I was intrigued and terrified at the same time. They told me it would be outside (and near a very busy street no less), and I was scared of what other people would think or that I wouldn’t be able to keep up. But I know life needed a jumpstart, so I decided to sign up.

At first, my weight loss results were not what I had hoped, but I made some interesting discoveries. Looking back at week one, I was concerned about all the wrong things- “there is a prize,” strangers on Ladue road will be able to SEE us”; “what if I can’t keep up with the others in the group”, etc. After week 8, I realized it’s not about looking out, it’s about looking in. I’m continuing with boot-camp, because now I’m doing it for me – not for the strangers on Ladue Road or the other girls in the camp. There truly is no secret weapon- it’s all about activity and watching food intake. It doesn’t work if I do one but not the other. I don’t suppose that exercise will ever be fun, but I HAVE to do it for my health and physical and emotional well-being. Success is a promise I’m making to myself and dedication is the path that will get me there. It’s hard, and there are distractions in the road, but I’m not giving up on myself.

In reviewing those first few weeks, I realized I wasn’t committed. I was moving my body, but my nutrition still wasn’t that great. I decided right then and there to give myself 100% over to the process. And wow, what a difference. Once I stopped eating junk all the time, the weight began to come off and my attitude changed too. I once thought exercise would never be fun, but now I LOVE boot-camp. I’m down 45 pounds, and recently hit a big personal goal. I’, third of the way to my total weight loss goal. I’ve never been able to focus on long-term weight loss in the past- it’s always been “how fast can I lose 50 pounds” and the weight loss never stuck. This time around, my focus has been on a HUGE goal in December. Thanks to your and Ashley’s encouragement and support, I feel like I can do it.

My journey is not over yet, but you’ve helped me change my life in a very profound way. Now instead of sitting on my couch, stuffing my face, and thinking about changing my life, I’m actually living those changes everyday. Thank you for helping me believe in myself again.
